I enjoy techie gadgets, so when I was offered a chance to review a home wifi camera I was excited. The EZVIZ Mini home wifi cam promised to deliver HD video image with audio and a wide viewing angle.

When my EZVIZ arrived, the first thing I noticed was that it really is mini. The whole camera can fit in the palm of my hand. The second cool thing I noticed was that it had a magnetic base. This means that it can stand up anywhere by itself or it can be stuck onto any metal surface. It comes with a metal mounting plate so you can mount it anywhere and still be able to easily pull it down if you wish by simply pulling the magnetic base off the metal plate.

The EZVIZ Mini has a free app that you can download for your smartphone. It is through this app that you can set everything up and control the camera. It took a matter of seconds to get the camera up and working with the app. You can even control and view multiple cameras at the same time if you have more than one.

This camera has a bunch of really neat features that would make it ideal for a security camera or a baby monitor. You can have it set to send alerts to your phone when it senses motion. You can even schedule what times of the day and which days you would like to be notified if any motion is detected. If you have a memory card or cloud storage set up it will also automatically record any movement. This would be a huge security feature if you were gone from your house and got an alert. You could instantly see what was going on and know if you needed to take action or not. You would also have recorded video evidence if needed.

The microphone worked really well and I was able to clearly hear any sounds. This would make the mini ideally suited to be a baby monitor. It also had night vision which worked quite well to see the baby at night.

There were 3 things that I would have liked to have seen different. One, I wish the cord was longer or gave me an option to use my own longer cord. Since the cord is hardwired into the camera you are stuck with the 5 foot built-in cord. Not that it is so short, but I like to have options. Second, I found when I got to the other side of my house and upstairs from my wifi signal, the camera had a more difficult time than other wifi devices I own. So you’ll have to make sure you have a very strong signal or you are relatively close to your wifi signal. The camera gives you the option of reducing the video quality and this does help with that issue. Third, to use night vision, it has a visible light which comes on in the front. I would have loved it if it was a stealth mode infrared light instead.

All in all, I though the camera worked great and was easy to use. For the price it can’t be beat. Similar options are selling for 2 and 3 times as much and don’t have as many features. So if you are in the market for a wifi camera, I can recommend this one.
