From Lazy to Dapper in 4 Drops

Man oh man, things have been tough lately. I don’t really know why but they have. Ok, well, I do know why they’ve been tough. It’s because we have 5 kids. But when I say “things have been tough” what I really mean is “tougher than our normal baseline tough.”

There is always something to do for school, something to do around the house, around the yard, some event to get to, some birthday party etc. etc. multiplied by 5. Some days it’s a bit overwhelming and I just lock myself in my room and stare at the wall while the kids try to break the door down with pick axes. Alright, so maybe I don’t lock myself in my room but I dream about it.

It’s been 7 months since my wife started back to work after baby number 5 and I still haven’t really gotten used to her new hours. I have little to no time alone in the evenings anymore after the kids go to bed, something I used to have too much of. Blogging has taken an extreme backseat because recently I just want to crash in front of the TV and zone out for an hour before I pass out. Then I’m bummed I didn’t write. It’s odd how something like blogging can feel like a chore yet be so enjoyable at the same time.

I’ve got so many ideas for funny little posts but no time or energy to write them. Sometimes when I do have energy I have to spend 2 hours responding to emails I’ve gotten throughout the week. The cycle is vicious!

One email I got a while back was offering me some all natural beard grooming products. I sort of chuckled to myself and thought “I wonder why they assumed I have a beard, I don’t have a beard” then I reached up to touch my face. Oops. Turns out I’m lazy and haven’t shaved in a month or so and I actually do have a beard. Who does that? Who grows a beard and doesn’t even realize it? This guy I guess.

LovelyBeards is a company that provides organic beard oil as well as all natural beard balm. I was intrigued. I have never intentionally had a beard that I’ve tried to maintain. Could I become that guy with a dapper well groomed beard? Who knows but they had scented beard oil and vanilla sandalwood seemed too good to pass up. I was also highly intrigued by nectarine mint, so I had them send me that as a balm.

The first thing I had to do was figure out what the difference was between a balm and an oil and why would I want to put either on my beard. Turns out the answer is fairly simple. Beard oils help your beard maintain a smooth soft appearance and feel, plus the added fragrance makes you smell great. Beard balms do a similar job of helping to condition your beard but they also allow you to shape and style it a little if you desire. Now my beard isn’t quite long enough to style into different shapes but if I continue to be lazy, who knows.

I’ve been using their beard products for about a week now and I can say I’m hooked. After applying 4 drops of oil, not only do I smell amazing but mentally I feel like I’m no longer just a lazy guy who grew a beard by accident. I’m a guy with a well conditioned, great smelling, dapper beard. Movember, you’ve been put on notice!

If you have a beard going on, or know someone with a beard who might enjoy some organic beard oil or balm as a gift this holiday season then you ought to head over to LovelyBeard and check out their entire collection. I’m sure some scent will catch your fancy, or they even have unscented. As a Sunshine Dad reader you can also use code Lovely10 to get 10% off your order.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and get to enjoy time with your loved ones.

  1. This is so true. We find a lot of the time men don’t even realize the benefits of using oils. We live it because it helps prevent itch (dry skin) while keeping things strong and healthy.

Hope your balms are still working out for you!

If you could take 30 seconds and give me your thoughts about what you just read, I'd be grateful!
