Our Summer Was Sweet

At the start of the summer I sat down with the kids and they brainstormed all the things they would love to do over the summer. It was fun for them to dream up places to go and it was helpful for me to know what types of things to plan. I was rather fortunate that they didn’t get too crazy with their ideas and as you can see below we were able to check off most of the items on their list.

Not too surprisingly, we didn’t make it to Sea World or Lego Land but we were able to hit up Disney very early before our Florida Resident Season Pass blackout dates kicked in. The kids also never got around to having a sleep over with any of their friends which should have been an easy and free thing to check off.

All in all, looking back over the list we were able to have an action packed fun summer even though it was a shorter summer this year than years past. Having the list prominently displayed on the wall helped me to stay motivated to plan activities and the kids loved checking off the items and looking for the next one we could do. I’m already looking forward to our list next year.

Another sweet thing we were able to do this summer was to try out Doorstep Desserts. They are a company that will ship you fun ready to make dessert kits. You can have them shipped once a week, twice a month or once a month. Each week they feature two different desserts and you get to choose the one that you like best.

The desserts were simple enough to make that I could have the kids pitch in to help and they were all super delicious! We all got so excited every time one of these boxes showed up at our door.

Inside the box was everything you needed to create your dessert masterpiece. Here are the contents of 2 of the boxes:

The kids were always eager to get their hands dirty and help out.

One of the desserts was a bit more challenging and dad had to do most of the work.

With little kids as my helpers, the final products didn’t always come out looking exactly like they did on the recipe cards, but I will say I’m pretty impressed with how they all turned out for the most part.

Of course the best thing about the whole process is getting to eat the dessert at the end! Even if they didn’t always look perfect, they tasted amazing and we had a fun time working together to make them.

So if you’re looking for something fun to do with your kids, a date night idea or a unique gift for someone else, I’d recommend looking into Doorstep Desserts. Your mouth will thank you.

Disclosure: I was sent 4 free desserts in order to review their services. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
