Bed time routine around here almost always involves a few books. There is nothing quite like a great book to whisk you away on a great adventure. Recently I was sent a copy of Goodnight Lad to check out.
The story was a tale about a boy who wouldn’t go to bed and the lengths his parents went to in order to get him to fall asleep. If that’s all there was to this book it would have been placed on the bookshelf among our 100 other books to get worked into the book rotation.
Turns out this book has one really cool feature that sets it apart from every other book on the planet. Continue reading Old-School Meets New-School

Scooby-Doo was easily one of my favorite cartoons growing up and I still have tons of LEGOS around my house now. Well, lucky for my 10 year old self, LEGO and Scooby-Doo have teamed up to make a series of stop motion YouTube videos using the new Scooby-Doo LEGO sets.
I can remember taking my family’s old giant VHS video recorder and putting it on a tripod and making my own stop motion movies with LEGOS. I didn’t even know it was called stop motion and every movie was almost exactly the same: two LEGO trucks drove head first into each other and then violently exploded all over the room. I was a very predictable director, in hind sight I should have mixed in some love story plot lines. Oh well.
Fortunately for you, the WB Kids YouTube channel has succeeded where I failed Continue reading Scooby-Doo & LEGO $200 Giveaway
The written word can be very powerful. It can be a great way to express love, record memories and give advice. Many parents have started journals or scrapbooks for their children and many others have started blogs. I have recently come across another way to preserve messages you want to pass on to loved ones.
Letters From Me is a service that allows you to store messages and pictures to be viewed at a later time. Letters From Me was started by a dad who was writing letters to his daughters so that they could read them in the future. He was saving them in an e-mail account but then one day the e-mails were lost. He set out to create a better way to save messages for them. The result was Letters From Me. You can read more about his story here.
You can write letters to be read after you have died, or on a special day for the recipient such as graduation, a birthday or a wedding day. There are two way to get messages into your account. You can go to a their webpage and select the tab “Send a Letter” or you can send an e-mail to the address of your account.
This has so many different applications. A spouse could write letters to their significant other and leave the login information in their safety deposit box to be read after passing. A parent could open an account for their child and give the e-mail address to all their family members and they could send letters into the account to be read when the child graduates high school. You could just keep a journal for yourself.
The best part is the service is only $9.99 for life. Without getting too technical, they currently have enough funds locked into escrow accounts that will keep the servers running for 10 years if they never make another sale. So you can rest easy about your data staying put for a long time.
I actually just lied, the best part is they are giving away 5 accounts to 5 of my lucky readers. Enter below, it would even make a great gift to any new parent.

If your kids are anything like mine they are always getting some random rashes. Sometimes they go away in minutes, sometimes they linger for days. I don’t know if I should be putting moisturizing lotion on it or getting a prescription for an antibiotic ointment.
So what do I do? Well that’s easy, I ask my wife. She is a physician assistant in the emergency room and it’s her job to check out and diagnose random rashes (among plenty of other things). But what if your spouse isn’t medically trained and doesn’t work in the Emergency Room? Continue reading What’s the Deal with that Rash?
