I’ve decided to start reviewing products that I use on a regular basis. Why? Good question. I appreciate it when others write reviews on products and I can read them before deciding to make a purchase. I hope I can help someone out there make an informed decision as well. Today I’m going to review the Beaba Babycook Baby Food Maker.
I use this baby food maker a couple of times a week. A friend gave it to us for our first child’s baby shower. I have never owned or used any other baby food maker so I cannot compare it to any others that are on the market. Here are my thoughts:
PROS:
- It’s super easy to use.
- It’s fairly compact so it doesn’t take up a huge amount of space.
- It allows you to decide what fruits and/or vegetables you feed your baby. Organic, non-gmo, locally grown, backyard grown, etc.*
- You can save a lot of money over time. According to a ballpark estimate of how I use it in our house: A $2 organic butternut squash will yield around 42oz of food. If you can find organic baby food on sale you might be able to get 42oz for around $10.50. This can translate to around $30 in savings a week for me. Obviously these numbers will change some depending on how much your child eats and what other foods you use. You really ought to feed your child something other than just butternut squash.*
- It is simple and quick to clean-up.
- You can mix foods and create flavors that aren’t otherwise available.*
- You can add in supplements like flax if you want to.*
CONS:
- It is a little pricey. At around $120 you would have to use it regularly to offset the price.
- Even though it is compact, it is another appliance you have to store somewhere. It is essentially a steamer and a food processor in one, two things you might already have.*
- Because it is compact you can’t make a whole lot of food at one time. I find I usually yield somewhere between 14oz and 21oz each batch depending on the food, how much water I add and how small I cut up the pieces.
The bottom line is this is a nice little product that works exactly as it is supposed to with very little effort and if you use it regularly it can save you some money. If you put it on your baby registry and someone gets it for you then you have a win-win! 🙂
